Course Description

Novice 1 is a foundational chess program designed specifically for true beginners. Across 15 one-hour sessions, students will build a solid understanding of the basics—from how each piece moves to executing simple checkmate patterns. Your young learner will gain confidence and strategic awareness through carefully structured lessons that emphasize key fundamentals.

  1. Comprehensive Basics: Classes cover piece movement, capture strategies, and essential mating patterns including “checkmate in one” and the “Rook Roller Mate”.
  2. Emphasis on Piece Development: Focused instruction on mobilizing pieces correctly helps students establish strong opening habits from the start.
